Open ambitions are hard to govern
Teams often begin with a broad request: automate research, qualify leads, answer customer questions, or build an agent. The language signals potential, but it does not define an input, decision, output, or owner. Without those boundaries, performance cannot be inspected and risk cannot be allocated.
A bounded task has five parts
Name the trigger, the permitted source context, the transformation, the acceptance rule, and the handoff. For example, an agent may classify an incoming enquiry against approved service descriptions, prepare a source-linked draft, and route anything ambiguous to a human owner.
This is not a limitation of intelligence. It is a design choice that creates a useful surface for learning, testing, and governance.
The best first task is usually narrow
Choose a repeated task with clear inputs and a reviewer who already knows how good work looks. The goal is not to prove autonomy. It is to build a reliable workflow that can be improved through evidence and feedback.
